Music - The Beatles: Get Back

Music - The Beatles: Get Back
The beginning, of the end.

I spoke with a colleague of mine Mr 'name removed for privacy'.

When we see each other we often talk normally politics, the current climate, or random general garbage that we both relate to.

But today we spoke about The Beatles: Get Back, and this inspired this article.

Furthermore, The Beatles have just released their final song in 52 years!

Perfect timing let's do this!

In 1969, an album called Let It Be written by The Beatles would contain material that still to this day we all know.

In this short 1 month period, they will write 14 songs that will appear on Let It Be & Abbey Road.

But who would have known that the entire process would be filmed, and in 2021 would be remastered to create a modern masterpiece.

Now, let me be very clear. I'm not a Beatles Fan... well not like this lass!

A Beatles Fan passed out...

But this in short made me respect who, what, and how they did what they did.

But who gives a shit?

It was the 60's. Well, you should!

Certainly in my lifetime, there will never be anything like The Beatles.

Taylor Swift broke in 2021 The Beatles' record of having the fastest run of three number-one albums.

But this is 2023 and the fact that such a huge modern artist as Taylor Swift has broken this is quite a big deal to The Beatles, with the internet and worldwide popularity.

But this if anything has made The Beatles more important.

In 1964 you had no Internet, it was a shocker to have a car!

You had one thing and one thing only!

A voice.

The Beatles got the fame from word of mouth.

Stop! Below this point are spoilers.

If you have not seen The Beatles: Get Back you should!

Spoilers Section:

So the entire idea of this section really is to highlight some very important parts that I felt made this 'musically' pleasing.

Day 4 - Watching 'Get Back' being created out of thin air.

Paul McCartney was an unstoppable machine of music. Using his Hofner Bass and what feels like 10 minutes, he's made a song that years later if you hear it.

It's catchy, simple, and genius.

And a few takes later the entire band is playing it.

Day 5 - I Me Mine

The entire scene is sad really, George has come in with an idea. I Me Mine, and John Lennon seems to take the piss really.

This would later become a reason that I think that George would leave the band, I Me Mine did end up on the final album.

I think this song is more relevant today than ever.

Day 6 - Another Day & The Long and Winding Road

The goosebumps here, as Mal asks Paul 'Have you got any more words?'

Paul starts playing the Long and Winding Road.

Why is this such a big deal?

Well, think about it.

This song only exists in 1 place Paul's head.

Like a fly on the wall, you watch a song that is still remembered today! It's very strange!

The conflicts.

Day 9: Bonding

Why this scene, you ask!

Well, it's part of being someone who plays the Piano, Paul, and Paul Bond just talking music. It's nearly a song itself it's that good! And that is all the music that will ever be written on 88 Keys!

Day 13: Fleetwood Mac & Canned Heat

The Beatles had respect for other artists. John gave some positive feedback about Fleetwood Mac and Canned Heat's 'Going Up the Country'.

Effortlessly they all start playing 'Going Up the Country' Beatles style! It doesn't sound like much, but the skill to just start playing a song they've only heard once or twice is amazing.

Day 13: Billy Preston

And now, your hosts for this evening The Rolling Stones!

Fucking hell, where did Billy Preston come from?!

His grove just supercharged I've got a feeling out of the world.

Day 14: Help!

Taking the piss out of their song 'Help!' and 'Please Please Me!'

Again just having a laugh!

Day 15: George Harrison - For You Blue

So this scene is one that I did have on 100% volume.

When attempting to write the song For You Blue, George wanted the style of the 'Old Pub' style pianos that never get tuned. But with a Blüthner Model 1 that's not such an easy deal. Blüthner’s are designed to sound good.

At the end of the day, they are 'Concert Grand Pianos'

So how do you make it sound like it's never been tuned? Newspaper.

George Martin in the act!

As a result, you get a 'Honky Tonk' sound as the strings vibrate the Newspaper damped the sound.

It sounds utterly unique. Especially on the treble clef side of the Piano.

Glyn Jones or George Martin whoever thought of that, pure genius.

Day 17: Octopus Garden

Ringo comes in with an idea. Octopus Garden.

You learnt A-Minor? eh?
George and Ringo painting the middle section.

George and Ringo then begin to draft and get it resolved back to start.

Day 18: Shake Rattle and Roll

I always try my best to enjoy my work.

And this is an example even with an impossible deadline. The Beatles are still having a laugh, enjoying it!

Billy and Heather seemed to have a massive effect and seemed to loosen the group.

There's no fighting or awkward moments apart from when Yoko Ono starts singing.

No hate for Yoko at all! The World really does owe her!

Day 21: Rooftop Concert

George Martin happy with the 'Hidden Camera'

Now. If you feel that I'm wrong here that's fine I understand but.

This concert is a perfect illustration of what The Beatles could do, the concert hadn't been advertised anywhere.

No Internet.

Just get on a roof and play.

The Roof in Question.

This is more impressive today, than it was in 1969.

The Beatles basically filled Savile Row, and that's not a small area.

Trust me, I know!

I've bloody been there!

“I would like to say thank you on behalf of the group and ourselves and I hope we’ve passed the audition.”

A haunting line.

The Beatles would never play live again.

Fin.
