Security - YubiKey, best Christmas present for the techy!?

Security - YubiKey, best Christmas present for the techy!?

For Christmas 2022 I was gifted a set of YubiKey's.

I've got to say that this was the best present I got that year.

Not being ungrateful.

Ok, alright then. The best 'Tech' gift that year.

Now the world needs to up the Multifactor Authentication Game and this is it.

Especially since COVID-19.

The modern-day cyber threat can do anything!

I've worked in many places and seen multiple attacks normally occur to Office 365. If an attacker can get into any employee's Mailbox it can devastating for the organisation.

So you've been compromised? What does that mean for a business?

Your digital footprint may have been erased.

What percentage of modern businesses have a digital footprint?

Well, I don't know a business that doesn't.

Recovery?

How good are ya backups?

Oh well, we've not tested them till now!

Your ******.

I'm ranting so I'll stop.

The 'DAMAGE'

-77 wow!

As you can see from the big discount it was an amazing present! You'll understand why I got 2 later!

Damage - 0 Security - 1

How does YubiKey work?

YubiKey integrates with multiple MFA providers that offer a security key to authenticate.

As a result, it gives you another layer of protection that I feel is quite an edge above having authentication on your Phone.

You always have your phone with you and that device can be stolen and if that happens, you've got no backup.

If YubiKey is stolen they'd need to know your PIN and have access to where you store your device..

Example

I use Bitwarden as a password manager and Yubikey ensures that I don't have to worry about my vault.

I authenticate normally:

Simply tap at the top of my iPhone.

iPhone integration with YubiKey out of the box!

Bingo authenticated.

So why did I get two? Well, it's always good to have an alternative in case you lose or misplace your YubiKey.

Both devices are separate in a place in two different houses, both could be accessed when in a critical situation.

Conclusion

Sometimes the price can be hard to swallow for what looks like a USB Flash Drive BUT this really is worth it.

I wouldn't write about something that just isn't worth anyone's time so edge YOUR game up and try it!

From all the Geekden we'd like to wish you all Happy Christmas & Happy New Year
